HOOD MYTH: “Blackman, The Bible says we are Gods!”
A lot of Nuwaubians, Kemetics, 5%’s, and Moorish Scientist try to use Psalm 82:6 as biblical proof that black people are really the gods here on earth.
Psalm 82:6 (NASB)
I said, “You are gods, And all of you are sons of the Most High.
Then they will jump back to their own pseudo scholarship, knowledge of mythological gods, and fallacies to tie it all together. Not even knowing that they have missed the whole ancient Israelite cosmological context of the Divine Counsel in the Bible.
Let’s look at the first verse of this same Psalm in two different translations.
(ESV) God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment:
(NET) God stands in the assembly of El; in the midst of the gods he renders judgment.
So as you can see there is a Divine Counsel that exist in the spiritual realm, where there are divine beings (both good and bad) who are under the authority and judgement of YHWH.
Now go to verse 7:
(NASB) “Nevertheless you will die like men And fall like any one of the princes.”
These specific beings have forfeited their eternal existence in the spiritual realm, the same way humans have forfeited eternal existence (with our current bodies) on the physical realm.
STREET FACTS: When Jesus/Yeshua said “ye are gods” (John 10:34), he wasn’t making a proclamation of our nature. He was actually putting all false gods on blast and letting them know that He is The Most High God incarnate, and is putting all on their final notice.
Many pastors and Bible teachers struggle with verses like these because they feel as though it is polytheistic. But it’s not. Therefore, they try to humanize it’s understanding; or not realize the many verses polemic nature. But ancient Israelite cosmology was always very firm on the fact that YHWH is one, and he is unique with none else like him. (Psalm 86:8)
Look forward to my essay on the Divine Counsel and how it relates to urban apologetics. (Coming soon)…
